The Australian Government Department of Employment has published Australian Jobs 2016.
The publication presents an overview of the current labour market and highlights the major changes which have occurred, including for industries and occupations. It is designed to meet the needs of a range of users, and there is a regional analysis of employment for all states, as well as a breakdown of jobs by industry that is informative, commencing page 11.
Some key points for Australian Retail include:
- The second largest industry for jobs, employing 1,267,400 Australians
- Employs more than 410,000 young people
- Close to 700,000 women are employed in Retail
- 7% of all new jobs created in the past five years have been in Retail
