The Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services, the Hon. Stephen Jones MP, has made new safety and information standards for infant sleep products and inclined non-sleep products. These standards have been introduced to reduce the risk of death and injury to infants.
- The Consumer Goods (Infant Sleep Products) Safety Standard 2024, and
- The Consumer Goods (Infant Products) Information Standard 2024
The new mandatory safety standard applies to all infant sleep products including products such as rockers, bassinets, household cots and folding cots and incorporates requirements from the repealed mandatory standards for household cots and folding cots.
The new mandatory information standard applies to infant sleep products as well as inclined non-sleep products.
An 18-month transition period has been issued and from 19 January 2026, businesses must comply with the new standards.
However, retailers are urged to not delay and work on implementation as soon as possible.
