NRA would like to congratulate Clennett’s Mitre 10 Retail store, MEGT and Whitelion for winning the Industry Collaboration Award at the annual Australian Training Awards for their Certificate II in Retail traineeship program, created to provide long-term employment and training opportunities to vulnerable youth in the Tasmanian communities of Mornington, Kingston and Huonville.
Clennett’s Mitre 10 has a community focus and chose Whitelion – a charity dedicated to assisting disadvantaged young people – to support its programs.
MEGT Institute was introduced to the program to provide the on-the-job training element for the trainees sourced by Whitelion. Together with Whitelion, MEGT Institute specialises in providing support, encouragement and guidance to help the trainees get through those difficult periods and achieve their training and work goals.
The program is already proving successful and Clennett’s Mitre 10 has just taken on its sixth trainee, with the first two students moving on to full-time roles and one even becoming a Department Supervisor! The trainees have won customer service awards, grown in confidence, demonstrated work ethic and hold pride in working and providing for themselves and their families.
Retail provides a range of great career opportunities for young people, and is an important industry for young people seeking an entry-level job. Retail is the industry most likely to employ a young person, and provide them with a clear, structured career path, with transferable employability skills, which can be applied across any industry.
