Queensland imposes new COVID-19 restrictions
Following a cluster of six cases of COVID-19 at a youth detention centre, the Queensland Government has imposed further restrictions on gatherings in that State.
Gatherings in private residences and public spaces, such as parks, in the Greater Brisbane area will be limited to 10 people from 8:00AM on Saturday 22 August 2020. Such gatherings will be limited to 30 people in the rest of the State.
Importantly, Queensland’s Chief Health Officer is not, as present, imposing additional restrictions on commercial premises, relying on the fact that businesses are all currently operating under COVIDSafe Plans in accordance with existing public health directives.
It is therefore vital that businesses ensure that they have an up-to-date COVIDSafe Plan in place and, more importantly, that such plans are enforced. The Chief Health Officer has not ruled out further restrictions if new cases continue to emerge, and the best means of ensuring that further restrictions are not needed is making sure that businesses do their part to minimise the risk of exposure and community transmission.
