COVID-19 Update: 23 June 2021

NSW – “NOT A LOCKDOWN, BUT ABANDON NON-ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES”

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced tighter restrictions will be in place in the City of Sydney, Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, Bayside, and Woollahra from 4:00pm AEST today. 

• The 1 person per 4sqm rule comes back into force for all indoor and outdoor setting;
• Masks will be compulsory in all indoor non-residential settings, including workplaces, and at organised outdoor events;
• Drinking while standing at indoor venues will not be allowed;
• Singing by audiences at indoor shows or by congregants at indoor places of worship will not be allowed;
• Dancing will not be allowed at indoor hospitality venues or nightclubs however, dancing is allowed at weddings for the bridal party only (no more than 20 people);
• Dance and gym classes limited to 20 per class (masks must be worn);
• Outdoor seated events will be limited to 50% seated capacity;
• Previous public transport capacity limits will be reintroduced;
• If you live or work in the City of Sydney, Waverley, Randwick, Canada Bay, Inner West, Bayside, and Woollahra local government areas, you cannot travel outside metropolitan Sydney for non-essential travel.

NSW Health says the restrictions will be in place for one week.

Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Nothern Territory have all declared Greater Sydney LGAs hotspots, and have restricted travel from those areas.

RESTRICTIONS IN VICTORIA TO EASE FROM FRIDAY

Victoria will see restrictions begin to ease from 11.59pm on Thursday, 24 June 2020.

• Public gatherings of up to 50 people
• Work from home recommendations removed, caps raised
• Wedding and funeral caps raised to 300 — subject to venue density limits
• Seated venues – maximum 300 indoors, 1,000 outdoors
• Mask use is still mandatory

More specifically for hospitality venues in Melbourne:​

• Restaurants and cafes can now open to a maximum of 300 patrons per venue for seated service, subject to a density quotient of one person per 4sqm.
• Venues smaller than 600sqm can have one person per 2sqm, up to 150 patrons, provided that a COVID check-in marshal is present.
• Smaller venues will still be able to host up to 25 people before applying the density quotient.
