General retail shops in the Perth metropolitan area will now be able to operate from 8am to 6pm on Western Australia Day, 6 June.
In a move to gradually ease retail training restrictions, Michael Mischin, commerce minister, said the extra trading hours would mean greater convenience, choice and flexibility for consumers and for retailers, the changes allows greater freedom to be able to cater to the demands of their customers.
With the constant competition of online shopping, the longer hours will allow retailers to compete more effectively.
The new trading hours will also be in effect for the Queen’s Birthday public holiday in September.
