Woman

Last year, ANZ released the 2015 ANZ Women’s Report: Barriers to achieving financial gender equity, highlighting that globally:

• Women earn up to 36 per cent less than men;
• Women represent more than 40 per cent of the world’s labour force but only control a quarter of the world’s wealth;
• Worldwide, women make up less than 20 per cent of government;
• Less than 25 per cent of senior management roles are held by women; and
• 31 million girls worldwide are still denied a primary education.

In many aspects of their lives, girls start out ahead. So how do they fall so far behind? The system is not designed for women to succeed.

Yesterday, the National Retail Association (NRA) hosted an exclusive and intimate breakfast for NRA members and special guests to hear from thought leaders on this topic as they highlighted why the world needs reshaping and how they can create a more equal future in the workplace, community and at home.

It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that we help women succeed. There is no simple solution, however, from an employer’s perspective you can start by:
• Introducing gender-balanced recruitment practices to help give every able candidate fair consideration.
• Provide flexible working arrangements to ensure you can better meet the needs of your staff and customers.
• Implement programs that support female leaders and women aspiring to senior roles.

Here at the NRA we can help you implement such programs and practices. Call us on 1800 RETAIL (738 245) or via email at info@nra.net.au to find out more.

Thank you also to our event sponsors; ACCI’s Biz Better Together, REST Industry Super, The Prop House, VM+ and CCIQ. Without your support this event could not have been possible.

Let’s create a more equal world!
