Arl Marketplace

The new initiative will be delivered by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), the National Retail Association (NRA), the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP), and the Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC). 

The ARL is a labelling system that provides you with easy-to-understand recycling information for packaging. It shows what needs to be done with each piece of a package to dispose of it in the correct way. It is designed to reduce this confusion with clear and accurate on-pack instructions on what to do.

The Australian Government is working with Industry to ensure that 80 percent of supermarket brands have transitioned to the ARL by 2023. This target is part of the Federal Government’s National Plastics Plan.

The National Retail Association, APCO, Australian Institute of Packaging, and the Australian Food and Grocery Council will work with over 20,000 businesses to increase awareness and understanding of the ARL and its benefits.

The ARL Marketplace

Launched in 2022, the marketplace website features a range of free educational tools and resources designed to help businesses understand the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL). You can find out more by visiting the ARL Marketplace today at www.arlmarketplace.org.au.

Events and webinars

Throughout the year, the National Retail Association will attend conferences and host free, online discussions on the ARL program. To register to attend, please email sustainability@nra.net.au

Learning modules

Over the coming months, our campaign partner the Australian Institute of Packaging will be offering a range of educational online learning modules to help businesses take action to improve the sustainability of their packaging.  The first three modules are currently available on the ARL Marketplace.
