The National Retail Association (NRA) has launched the Foundation Skills for Retail Web Portal, providing free training and professional development resources for language, literacy and numeracy practitioners operating across the Australian retail industry.
The portal has been produced by the NRA with the assistance of funding provided by the Australian Government through the Department of Education and Training.
To access the web portal, click here.
Operating as a gateway for the delivery of foundation skills information to the Australian retail industry, the portal will be continually updated by the NRA to ensure that the industry has ongoing access to up-to-date and relevant information about LLN training and support.
The launch of this web portal is particularly relevant given that the Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) program has now ended, making the promotion of foundation skills training in the workplace, a greater challenge for many businesses.
Indeed, research conducted by the NRA suggests that for many people in the retail industry, the reading and numeracy tasks of their job role may, on occasion, be beyond their existing skill level and they may need some additional time and assistance.
In these instances, the NRA encourages employers, managers, and training practitioners to access the library of resources that are now available through the Foundation Skills for Retail Web Portal.
The resources and practical learning activities, which have been developed by the NRA, have been designed so that they can be embedded in the everyday work activities of retail workers, to ensure that the foundation skills training is indiscernible from practical workplace training.
