An increase to the waste levy that was due to hit July 1st has been set back by six months. The new date for the increase will be the 1st January 2021.
The move comes as the Queensland state government looks to assist businesses during the COVID-19 crisis. An overwhelming majority of businesses have reported financial stress during the pandemic.
This means the levy will stay at the following rates:
- $75 per tonne for general waste
- $105 and $155 per tonne for hazardous (regulated) wastes
These levies will stay in place until December 31st 2020.
