The National Retail Association (NRA) has welcomed the unveiling of an initiative by the Queensland Government to help people who lost their job due to COVID-19 find employment.
The new Jobs Finder Queensland web portal will enable jobseekers to provide information regarding their skills and work experience to match them with corresponding jobs in industries with an employment demand.
NRA CEO Dominique Lamb said that measures to minimise the unemployment rate in the current climate are vital to keeping the economy moving.
“The initiative is obviously good as it will assist those who have lost their job due to COVID-19 find new work. But if we can get those people back into the workforce it will also give those same individuals more ability to spend money in the economy generally, helping save jobs elsewhere,” Ms Lamb said.
“With the unemployment rate beginning to rise as the economic hit starts to pinch, any simple but effective measure to minimise the job losses is welcomed.
“We encourage any retail worker in Queensland who has lost their job to register through the Jobs Finder Queensland web portal.”
