Project update – 12 months since launch
SafeCity Network encourages increased crime reporting
The National Retail Association’s SafeCity Network aims to engage retailers in Brisbane CBD and Fortitude Valley about retail crime and crime reporting to discover the real-world issues facing retailers and to encourage retailers to participate in a trial project of sharing information via online or other innovative channels.
Over the first 12 months’ trial starting March 2018, retailers could provide information and intelligence about serious retail crimes on the central Auror platform which then shares data with other users and with law enforcement. In turn, the platform makes it easy for the police to distribute selected information back to retailers, helping apprehend criminals, securing better conviction rates, and preventing repeat offenders.
This project created an opportunity for the National Retail Association and local businesses to work together and take the fight against retail crime to the next level for the benefit of the whole community. The trial was supported by Brisbane City Council and received funding from the Commonwealth as part of the Safer Communities Fund.
After the initial 12 month trial, the SafeCity Network continues to gather and share intelligence with retailers via one-on-one visits, crime alerts and fortnightly bulletins.
