To continue meeting the evolving challenges facing the retail sector, the National Retail Association (NRA) is pleased to announce the appointment of former CEO, Trevor Evans, as a Special Advisor in the NRA’s Policy Division.

NRA Interim CEO Lindsay Carroll said that Mr Evans will focus on collaborating with governments at all levels to deliver policy initiatives to assist retailers navigate the current challenging economic conditions.

“The NRA is delighted to welcome back, Trevor Evans, as a Special Advisor to assist the Board and NRA team across a variety of industry projects,” Ms Carroll said.

“Trevor brings extensive experience across both industry and government, making him an invaluable asset for retail during this crucial period. He will bolster the NRA’s already strong advocacy armoury to ensure that governments around Australia engage effectively with a sector of paramount economic importance.

“Trevor will work closely with the board and the NRA team to devise policy projects to rejuvenate the retail sector. This includes projects that have impacted consumer spending such as cost-of-living, as well as tapping into his expertise in policy areas such as sustainability and the environment.”

Mr Evans said that during these challenging times, the importance of retail to the Australian economy cannot be overstated.

“Small and family shopfronts across the country are the backbone of Australian retail. In these challenging times, they rely on their association more than ever to advocate to government for improved outcomes,” Mr Evans said.

“Cost of living pressures have seen Australian households cut back on spending and this has affected retailers across the board. The retail sector is one of the largest employers in Australia, so we need industry and government to work collaboratively to support small and family businesses while we navigate adverse economic conditions.

“I look forward to working with the NRA to advocate for members across the country and am determined to assist in providing positive outcomes for its members.”

In addition to previously serving as CEO of the NRA, Mr Evans was also the Federal Member of Parliament for Brisbane between 2016 and 2022, as well as Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management from 2019 to 2022.
