Members will be aware that Sunday penalty rates under the General Retail Industry Award 2010 have been reducing in small increments since 1 July 2017, with the final reduction due to take effect from 1 July 2020.
This reduction was hard-won by the NRA and other employer groups over three years in the Fair Work Commission and the Federal Court.
Now, in a further twist to last week’s unprecedented annual wage decision, the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association (SDA) is seeking to delay this final reduction until 1 February 2021.
Noting that the matter needs to be dealt with urgently, the Fair Work Commission has listed this case for hearing at 10:30AM on Monday 29 June 2020.
The NRA will be appearing on behalf of our members at this hearing to defend the concessions hard-won in 2017. We will keep our members updated as the case develops.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The NRA’s wage summary for the General Retail Industry Award 2010 as presently published presumes that the Sunday penalty rate will reduce on 1 July 2020. Members should be aware that if the SDA is successful, the Sunday penalty rate in that wage summary will be subsequently revised.
